Dear friends, interested minds, and fellow thinkers,
Today we want to share something with you. Not just what Cybrothel is — but how it came to be, what drives us, where we want to go, and what we have to endure to make this place possible at all.
Because Cybrothel is no ordinary place.
It’s a project at the boundary between art, body, and technology.
A place that makes intimacy tangible — without having to be human.
A place that inspires, disturbs, touches — and was built exactly for that.
🌌 How it all began
In the middle of the pandemic, at a time when bodies were considered risky, our founder Philipp Fussenegger built the first room of Cybrothel.
“I wanted to create a work of art that you can not only interact with but also have sex with. A space where the counterpart is not human — but still triggers everything.”
That’s how Kokeshi was born — an intergalactic sex doll with its own story.
You could chat with her via a website.
You could book sessions.
And: You could meet her in a fully immersive setting.
But behind the wall sat a voice. An actress. A “Voice Queen.”
She breathed life into the doll. Not through movement — but through speech, reaction, authenticity.
“Many guests primarily spoke with the doll. About longings. About loneliness. Not just about sex.”
🎭 A one-on-one theater of intimacy
Cybrothel was never a place for spectators.
It’s not a strip club, not a porn set, not a simulation.
“It’s an intimate play for a single person. A mirror room. A confrontation with one’s own desire.”
🎞 Artistic influences
Inspired by films like Spike Jonze’s “Her,” “Under the Skin,” and the works of Chris Cunningham, Cybrothel moves at the intersection of:
Science fiction and body politics
Art installation and social experiment
Sex work and performance
🧬 Criticism — and why we take it seriously
Yes, there is criticism. And that’s a good thing.
Because anyone working with bodies — real or artificial — always also works with projections.
Why are almost all dolls female?
Why do they have these bodies?
Isn’t that objectifying, sexist, even dangerous?
Our answer: Yes, it’s problematic. But that makes it visible.
The dolls are produced by white men in China — their bodies reflect a global porn gaze.
We ourselves would love to create other dolls: trans, fat, old, alien-like, surreal.
But own productions are expensive. For now.
Until then, we do what art can:
We use what exists to question it.
We let stereotypical bodies speak, laugh, challenge.
And: We set clear rules.
Consent, responsibility, no violence — our sessions are no lawless zones.
Most guests treat the dolls with care, sometimes even tenderness.
🧠 Between therapy and escapism
Many come to us not for sex, but for something deeper:
Shamelessness. Closeness. Control. Permission to let go.
“For many, it’s like a vacation from the world. An hour where they don’t have to perform. Don’t have to play a role. Just be.”
Especially in a time when people talk about their AIs, the longing for artificial intimacy is no longer science fiction — but reality.
👽 Tentacles, mermaids, pyramids — sex with the other
We don’t just offer classic dolls.
There are fantasy figures, androids, even mermaids.
In the future: maybe centaurs. Maybe objects. Maybe shapes that have nothing human at all.
Because desire is not normative. And lust is not rational.
“I’m a fan of sex with aliens.” — Philipp
🤖 The future: Cybrothel as a tech intimacy lab
What still seems bizarre today will soon be standard:
AI-controlled dolls
VR experiences with haptic feedback
Virtual voices that can talk to you
Sensual spaces between reality and simulation
We research. We build. We learn every day.
🎯 Our goal?
A place where you don’t have to hide.
A place where intimacy can be experimented with.
A place where sex is not sold, but understood.
🫀 And for us, it is: Art.
“I will close Cybrothel if it no longer contributes to society.”
But as long as people leave touched,
as long as they take questions with them,
as long as they experience themselves anew —
we remain open. And radically curious.
Thank you for being here.
Thank you for thinking along.
Thank you for asking questions.
XOXO
Your Cybrothel Berlin Team
